New Culture Oasis Program

Friday 8/6, 8-9:30pm – Easing Into Connection – Sarah
Who are the people here at Oasis?  What’s it like to arrive at this retreat?  How quickly do I want to dive into community and connection? Using guided self-inquiry and playful connection experiments, we’ll explore these questions and start getting to know each other.  Everyone is welcome to participate in the way that works for them.

**Dress warmly (the meeting space will be open to the outside air) and bring a mask.

Saturday 8/7, 9am-12pm – Culture-Building: Opening Circle, Orientation, & Pod Setup – Organizer Team
In our first day together, we’ll create the cultural container that will hold and nourish us for our collective adventure.  We’ll discover our intentions for camp, meet our teams and people with special roles, and start building a field of empowerment, love, and freedom.  Sarah and Indigo will guide us in a dynamic combination of sweet connection activities and compelling logistical details, including creating “connection pods” that will meet daily during camp.

**The organizers request that all campers join us who are not performing camp duties so that we can form our community with common understandings.

Saturday 8/7, 2:30-4:30pm – Finding the Sweet Spot: Consent Culture – Indigo & Sarah
How many of us say “yes” to things we don’t actually want out of guilt or a fear of losing connection?  In many ways, “no” is the most daring and intimate response possible – if I can hear your “no,” I can trust your “yes.”  In this dynamic workshop, we will:

  • Go over the conceptual foundations of creating a culture based on people following their inner truth rather than taking actions due to guilt or shame.
  • Address the “learning cycle” and how one creates new habits.
  • Experientially develop inner awareness of what one is feeling/sensing/reacting to others.
  • Practice making requests and offers, giving real responses, and working with the feelings that come up throughout.
  • If desired, give and receive consensual hugs, shoulder rubs, hair stroking, and similar types of touch.

**The organizers request that all new campers participate in this workshop, since it develops core skills for New Culture community.

Saturday 8/7, 8-11pm – Snuggle Party – Indigo
Together, we will open up a playground to explore consensual, platonic touch in community.  Nurturing touch has been shown to release compounds (i.e. oxytocin) which help lower blood pressure, heart rate, and cortisol levels, and contribute to feelings of connection and emotional well-being. No one is required to touch another person in this workshop; you’re welcome to talk, cuddle, read a book, or observe– observation is full participation.

Sunday 8/8, 9:45-11:45am – Emotional Intelligence: Relating to Self and Others – Sarah & Indigo
Emotions are a core part of being human for most.  From deep pleasure, to deep pain, all emotions can bring rich color to our lives.  But what ARE they, really? And how can we best relate to them?

In this workshop, we’ll share pithy discussion and embodied, experiential exercises that help us deepen our relationships with ALL of our emotions.  We’ll practice practical tools to work WITH our big emotions and channel them for self intimacy, healing and growth. Plus, we’ll share a decision tree and conceptual frameworks you can use to respond skillfully to emotional reactions in yourself and in others. We hope you’ll walk away with new ideas, self connection, and emotional empowerment.

**The organizers request that all new campers participate in this workshop, since it develops core skills for New Culture community.

Sunday 8/8, 3-4:30pm – ZEGG Forum Introduction – Sarah & the Forum Team
This session introduces the ZEGG Forum, a process that we will use every day to increase our understanding of each other.  See the description below in the “Daily” section.

**The organizers request that all new campers participate in this workshop, since it develops core skills for New Culture community.

Sunday 8/8, 5:30-6:30pm (during “Free Time) – Safe, Sexy Sex – Michael
In this presentation, Michael will go over the most common and concerning sexually transmitted infections, and describe how to avoid them while having safe, fun, sexy sex.

Sunday 8/8, 8-8:30pm – Sensual Space Orientation – Emma & Fuzzy
The Sensual Space is a warm and inviting space to explore Connection & Intimacy by engaging all of the senses. This is a space to lounge together after spending the day learning communication and intimacy tools – the perfect place to practice communication and share affection in a relaxed and sex positive atmosphere.  This short session will introduce the space and its etiquette.

Sunday 8/8, 9pm-? – Sensual Space Opening – Emma & Fuzzy
Immediately after the Orientation, those who wish will proceed to the Sensual Space for its official opening. All are invited to explore the Sensual Space – the opening activities will be sensual but nonsexual, and the Sensual Space Team will create a clear transition when the space becomes open for sexual connection.

Monday 8/9 and Tuesday 8/10, 2:30-4:30pm – Connecting Across Differences – Irina
Connecting across differences is an invitation for exploration. An exploration to deepen our connection to ourselves, discover our identities and roots, and get clear on where we stand. And an exploration of others – those we may want to be closer to and those who we find hard to understand and accept.

In this two-part workshop, we are going to take a Processwork approach to working with differences in personal and social relationships. First, we will discover ways to support your vision as well as experience others in the context of a relationship conflict, and discover fluidity in moving between perspectives and positions. Second, we will work on a challenging relationship by finding the other in yourself and discovering gifts that the difference may hold for you, your life, relationships, and work. We will learn, practice, share and celebrate your discoveries.

Monday 8/9, 8-9:30pm – Ecstatic Dance – Indigo
“Nobody cares if you can’t dance well. Just get up and dance. Great dancers are great because of their passion.” ― Martha Graham.

Whether you’ve danced all your life or never set foot on a dance floor– come express yourself with radically accepting, loving community!   In this space, all forms of expression are welcome– from yoga, to laughter, to shaking, to rest. All bodies, movements, emotions, and sounds are welcome… in this Ecstatic Dance.

Tuesday 8/10, 8-9:30pm – Abundance Party – Emma & Fuzzy
An Abundance Party is a chance for everyone to experience an abundance of loving attention.  We’ll split into small groups, and everyone in the group will have a chance to be the “focus person.”  The focus person gets to ask for what they want – a multi-handed massage, a music jam, people writing poems about them, whatever – maybe all of those at once!  If it’s within the group members’ boundaries, they give it to the focus person for a specific length of time.  Then it’s the next person’s turn.

This has been a year of scarcity for so many people.  Let’s give and receive the abundance of our loving attention, presence, and (if desired) touch.

Wednesday 8/11, 9:45-11:45am – Love Ceremony – Sarah
A Love Ceremony is a series of partnered and group interactions that invite appreciation, amazement, and reverence toward your fellow participants and your own self.  Beginning with ritually honoring one another, we will open up to emotional and physical intimacy.  This love ceremony will focus on emotional connection and nurturing touch.  All participants are always “at choice” to modify the interactions so that they are comfortable with them, or simply to witness.

Wednesday 8/11, 8-9:30pm – Cabaret – Sam
Come one, come all, and show us more about you! No talent is required – “if you can walk, you can dance; if you can talk, you can sing.”

Thursday 8/12, 11:30am-12:30pm – Closing Circle – Indigo
Honoring the experience of the past seven days, we will connect, reflect, and bid farewell to this incarnation of our community.

DAILY, various times – Morning Circle – Organizer Team
The camp community comes together for appreciations, announcements, and other sharings.  Please attend if you can – new information and conversations about arising issues happen here!

ALMOST DAILY, various times – ZEGG Forum – the Forum team
The ZEGG Forum process is a transformational container created by free-love radical communitarians and tuned for bringing up what’s under the surface in COMMUNITY. When undertaken with a group of sovereign beings who are dedicated to individual and collective transformation, it provides a cauldron for personal growth and community resilience unlike any other.

The goal of Forum is to reveal what is alive but not known to all.  The community sits in a circle, forming a stage for one person at a time to stand and show what is true for them.  Facilitators may assist the person (or “presenter”) to reveal themselves more deeply.  Afterward, community members may offer reflections, or “mirrors,” on what they saw.

Especially when interpersonal conflicts and polarizing issues arise, each person shares from the heart and is facilitated to go to the root of their truth, not just their superficial egoic needs.

When we “get” each other, we go the extra mile to figure things out. Empathy motivates the group to find a collective solution, while understanding gives the raw material needed for the solution.

ALMOST DAILY, various times – Going Deeper – Sarah & Indigo
When the need arises to give difficult feedback or address something that’s getting in the way of getting close to another person, many times we let it go, not wanting to ruin a happy moment or create a rift. But in reality, we’re keeping ourselves from intimacy when we could have it. When we’re willing to tell another person what’s keeping us from getting closer, we actually get closer.

In the “Going Deeper” spaces, we’ll have a chance to share difficult truths, intimate appreciations, and vulnerable parts of ourselves. Let’s get beyond this kind of sharing being an extraordinary experience, to where it’s an ordinary everyday thing. Every day we deepen our connections.
